ALT/Kindergarten/Private School teaching jobs

Hi! Just wondering if anybody knows of direct-hire ALT or kindergarten jobs that start in August. I\`ve seen a lot of direct-hire ALT positions that start in April but I can\`\`\`\`t apply to them because my JET contract ends at the end of July. All other teaching jobs that are posted now all start in April. I\`\`m worried that I might not be able to find a job before my visa expires. Has anyone had any luck finding a teaching job that start in August?

  1. If you do not want to end your JET contract early (March 31) to start a direct hire position April 1st – then your best bet will be to register with all the dispatch ALT agencies and tell them to keep you in mind for placements (likely taking over for someone who had to leave unexpectedly, got fired, or substitute) that start August 1st. This gets you something…and begin your job hunt for the following April in Nov/December prior.

  2. You could always leave early if you do get the direct-hire job.

There’s nothing saying you have to stay until the end of the contract. Especially if it would disrupt your life after JET. In the current climate, assuming you give enough notice, it might actually help a JET in waiting to get here earlier.

  3. I’ve scored good teaching positions starting in September twice. I replaced teachers who left at the end of the first academic term.

Worst case scenario, get an eikaiwa job to tide you over and apply for direct-hire positions that start April 2023.

  4. Theres always a bunch of immediate starts at the end of August due to people leaving for one reason or another. They usually pop up in the last couple weeks of August because the people in charge suck at planning. Ive done the whole register and keep me in mind thing – they wont. They’ll forget you and hire someone who applied to one of their urgent hiring posts in the summer.

  5. Just because your contract ends in July doesn’t mean you wait until then. If you can find something sooner, you leave.

  6. Option a)

apply for jobs, if you get one break contract and start from April.

    Option b).
Apply and ask them to keep you in mind for second semester/term. Hope someone quits and you get in.

    Option c).
Work at an eikaiwa until hiring season and start applying for April jobs in nov/December.

    Option d).
Hold off and live off savings until next hiring season and apply in nov/dec for jobs in April.

All that said, your visa will be your biggest issue.
