To be brief, I wanted to buy a camera on Mercari and after agreeing with the seller on everything, I used the convenience store cash method to pay. I went to family mart, did the whole registration thing, gave them the machine receipt and the money and received a stamped receipt. However, the seller just canceled the transaction and told me you can get your money back at the convenience store. I went there with the stamped receipt but they wouldn’t accept it for some reason. My Japanese is bad and their English is bad, I couldn’t understand what the problem was. I know it’s a bit vague but does anyone of you have an idea of why it was rejected? Thank you!

Ouch, sounds fishy AF. Try to contact the Mercari customer service; there may be a solution.
The amount will be put back to your account. You won’t receive cash back from the conbini.

I’ve had this happen 3x (and the reason why I’ve given up using Mercari).
Combini payments do not get refunded in cash. You should have received an email from Mercari about this when the sale was cancelled. The payment becomes like points on smth called “[Merpay](https://help.jp.mercari.com/guide/articles/610/)” which is basically like an e-wallet for Mercari.
You’ll have to make an account with Merpay, do some identity authentification stuff and hopefully be able to access the credited amount to use for another future purchase instead.
As far as I know you‘ll get the money back in the form of mercari points. Which sucks because it locks you in into the mercari eco system, but still better than nothing I guess.
