Kakijun

Hi. I found out about a resource called Kakijun (書き順) and I wanted to share it, as there don’t seem to be many posts about it.

It’s a Japanese website that has kanji and kana in different fonts with stroke order animations and a search function by character or by reading. Funnily enough it even has stroke order entries for the English alphabet.

It also has various points on stroke order irregularities and similar kanji and stuff like that.

What I’ve found most useful is that each character entry has images of it in various fonts from computer font to kaisho to crazy flowing cursive. This is great for those that are interested in developing their handwriting or for those that like shodou.

The only drawback is that the main website is in Japanese, so it may be a bit difficult to navigate for beginners. There is an English version but it lacks the search function (you have to pick from a list), so it’s a lot less useful.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. 🙂

  1. I know a similar app of apple store called Shirabe Jisho. It has a lot of the same functionality and it also has premade flash cards with a review system.
