Research career based on graduate university?

Not sure how to title this. I’m applying to graduate schools within Tokyo. I worry about what university to attend if I want a career in research.

I’ve read comments that imply you won’t get a job at a university like Todai or Waseda if you don’t graduate from certain Japanese universities.

I’m in STEM and ideally want to seek employment at a university later. And indeed, when I looked at the graduating university of most professors at Todai, Waseda and a few others, most either went to: Todai, Waseda, Texas A&M, University of Texas.

Is this actually *that* important? Along with Waseda and Todai, I want to apply to Tokyo Tech, and maybe Tokyo Uni of Agriculture. But I don’t want to harm employment prospects.
