Japanese OCR that can be applied to YouTube videos? (Mac)

Hey everybody! Longtime lurker here and I figured this would be the best place to ask.

Are there any OCR programs that can detect text in videos (YouTube, etc.) and then automatically transcribe/record it? Specifically, I have a Mac and an Android device too, if necessary.

Long story short, I can read Japanese just fine, but I’m trying to transcribe a script for a Japanese game for a translation-related project, and I’d rather not have to do it by hand.

Are there any shortcuts/tools for something like this? Or am I just going to have to sit down and write everything out bit by bit?

Thanks in advance!

  1. If it’s voiced, you can use the auto-generated subtitles as timing to generate images for batch OCR, or sometimes the voiced subtitles are close enough for small edits.

If not, you will have to capture the screen yourself and do the OCR. I’ve made [Game2Text](https://www.game2text.com/) for games, which will generate a log (text file) afterwards. If you want something simpler, you can try Capture2Text or ShareX (which offer the same OCR engines as Game2Text).
