I am in trouble

Hi everyone, I am new here and my brother told me that a lot of people here are helpful in giving advice, and I really need one right now. I have never experienced something like this in my life where I will have to go to court because a loan company sued me for not being able to pay for my debt. My credit cards are gonna take legal actions too since I haven’t paid for it in almost 6 months. The reason I wasn’t able to pay for those debts is because my doctor told me to quit my job for now since I am not in the right mental state to work, he advised me to apply for the welfare assistance. I was opposed to that idea so at first I never really wanted to process it coz I wanted to work coz I know that I have a lot of debts and bills to pay, but eventually I ended up doing it. My total debts are not that high (I think) but is it better if I just file for personal bankruptcy? I have no idea on the pros and cons of doing it so I am a bit hesitant. What better options do I have besides filing for bankruptcy? I really wanna pay my debts but I don’t have any source of income besides the welfare allowance. I am trying to look for jobs and have been applying but unfortunately I haven’t heard from most of the companies I applied for. If you guys have any suggestions about job hiring that would be very helpful! Thank you!

PS: I have a Japanese nationality so I won’t have any problems with visa but I didn’t grow up here and can’t really speak the language very well.

  1. I know someone who found themselves stuck with credit card debt. Long story short, they hired a lawyer, the lawyer in turn negotiated with the bank, managed to waive a sizable chunck of the interest (as long as they promised to work towards paying it off). They were ultimately put on a payment plan which took a year to pay off.

So yeah, consulting with a legal support center or hiring a lawyer will most likely be your best bet.
