“Indoor shoes” at the gym?

Recently joined a branch of Tipness, mostly to go swimming. It’s clear that you have to take your shoes off at the entrance to the changing room and that’s ok. I noticed that it says “take your outdoor and indoor shoes off here”.

As for other floors of the gym it only says “take outdoor shoes off here”. Does it mean that your sneakers for the regular gym are shoes that you would never wear outside? So if I wanted to use the running machines, I’d need new shoes?

Flip-flops and sliders aren’t allowed poolside. But could they be considered indoor shoes elsewhere?

These are the big questions occupying my mind this evening.

  1. I’m not sure how other gyms operate, but yes, the gym I belong to requires you to have clean, never-worn outside shoes in their weight/treadmill area. I doubt flip flops would be allowed in the weights are for your own safety.

  2. The shoes you wear at the gym should be exclusively for indoor use. I have a pair of running shoes for outdoors and a pair of training shoes for indoor workouts and treadmill running. That’s the custom here. Shoes that are used outdoors should not be worn inside the gym.

  3. It’s not uncommon if your gym has lockers you can rent for a month, to keep your gym shoes in there actually, so I’d get a cheapo pair from DonQ and toss em in the locker.
