Hello everyone. Slightly random question. We are moving to JP in December and I’ve been reading about getting your residence card on arrival at Haneda. Our desired flight will arrive after 9 pm and I am just wondering if that would be too late to get it issued or whether they are late opening/24 hour. Can anyone advise? Might it be a temporary stay and I have to come back to the airport the next day or something? Just one of those things that causes minor anxiety but I’m sure will be absolutely fine and I’m sure they’ve thought of this and it’s late opening.
Thank you!

I’ve never heard of people getting a residency card upon arrival at Haneda. AFAIK, you have to go to your local immigration office after you arrive in Japan to get it.

I got my residence card upon arrival at the immigration counter.
The same immigration office who affixed the landing permission sticker (immigration stamp) unto my passport also passed me the residence card.
Photo used was the one I submitted during visa application – it looks quite clear, so they probably have the soft copy on record.
Don’t worry, they are open.
If they for some reason aren’t, you would go to your local immigration office to sort it out, you would not go back to the airport.
Most likely (almost certainly) you’ll get it at the immigration counter where you hand over your passport and your other documents for inspection. They have a card printer at their stations and it takes about five minutes (all your info is already in their system). 🙂
