This question has probably been asked a billion times, but I am considering moving to Japan in the future or attending university. My biggest concern is though that I’m gay (and the kinda obvious one type). Would it be a bad idea to move to Japan as a pretty open gay person or should I stay in western countries? How is day to day life as a gay person? Will I experience any issues in university or the workplace?
Also I’m curious how is dating there.

I lived in Japan for around 16 months during the pandemic, so my experience might be a tad skewed, but the two prides I was in Sapporo for were absolutely fine. I think the Japanese see it as more of a ‘western’ thing – you’d probably get pushback if you were Japanese. However, the gay scene (at least in Sapporo) was fairly large, and as far as I can tell other cities have similar setup though I can’t comment with accuracy.
