My wife and I are US citizens and want to live in Japan for a year. We’re planning on living off of savings (and potentially working later, but that’s another question for another time). I’ve been looking around the web and the wiki, but I haven’t found great answers regarding this situation.
My mother is a Japanese citizen and lives in Japan. For me – it seems pretty straightforward – I can get a specified visa as the child of a Japanese national. However, I’m not sure what my wife’s situation would be. Can we jointly apply for the specified visa? Do I have to get the specified visa first and then she has to apply for the general visa (as the dependent of a FN)? Any advice appreciated!
