SIM card or pocket wifi?

Hello! I’m moving to Japan in 2 weeks and I’d like to know which is better for internet access for a new comer when first arriving: a SIM card or pocket wifi? I know a SIM card is cheaper but I’ve read online that the data is limited whereas a pocket wifi is unlimited. I need internet connection every where I go because I’m still learning Japanese and can’t read Kanji so I need Google Translate at all times. Which do you recommend and which brands are the best? And can I buy them upon arrival or do I have to order online in advance? Thanks.

  1. I found a 90 day, 50 GB Sim card on eBay for $67 US

Not sure how that compares, but you might check it out

  2. From my experience – having both a working cellphone and pocket wifi together wherever I go saved me many times. Pocket wifi you can rent until you get comfortable with not having it. I didn’t feel like it was that expensive

  3. One downside to the wifi is that it’s another battery you need to keep an eye on and charge.

I generally did not have any problem with the SIM from [Mobal ](https://www.mobal.com/japan-sim-card/), though that was 3.5 years ago.

Eta: I did confirm my phone (a Pixel or Nexus) used the correct frequencies for Japan; this wouldn’t be an issue with wifi.
