Where to buy Japan-made Catholic parafernalia?

Kind of a weird question. I’ll be visiting my parents soon, and my mother is a huge believer, so I thought It’d be nice to bring her something like a wooden crucifix or rosario made in Japan.

I am not a practitioner here in Japan though, so I am clueless as to where could I buy these kind of things. Does anyone have experience about this or know Catholic “shops” (I swear these are a thing in some countries) around Tokyo? Thanks.

  1. I would recommend taking your mother to Nagasaki if you can. Lots of churches there that could be considered pilgrimage sites.

If not, try the local Catholic Churches, but I don’t imagine they’d have much of those things.

Or if your mom likes to read, buy her a history book on Catholicism in Japan.

  2. Get something from Nagasaki via Rakuten, or take your mother to Karuizawa. Not doing any religious stuff myself, I could appreciate the beauty of the stylish churches in Karuizawa.

  3. Nagasaki has load of stuff like that on the road leading up to Glover Garden and Oura Church.

  4. Visit Jesus’s tomb in Aomori and share that he did not die on the cross that his brother took his place while he escaped down the silk road eventually settling in Japan, taking a wife, and having many happy little hafu kiddos.

  5. Saint Ignatius Cathedral, right next to Yotsuya station 四谷駅 on the Chuo Line, they have a little shop there, I remember I bought a rosario neklace there. If you visit on Sunday, you can ask around the Filipinos community, they’re quite friendly.

  6. Find your nearest cathedral. Most cities will have one. There is usually a small shop very close by.

  7. I saw some nuns loitering in Shinagawa once. Perhaps there’s a church there.

If so, they almost definitely have a convenient gift shop.

Pro-Tip: Look at the bottom to check that it doesn’t say Made in China.

  8. Around yotsuya station in Shinjuku ku there are a number of shops catering for church goers and practitioners. Run by nuns and priests (I think)
Along the Shinjuku Dori when walking from yotsuya station towards Shinjuku.
Can’t miss it. Wouldn’t know where it’s made as I am Jewish myself….

  9. St. Mary’s in Tokyo has a large shop, and is worth visiting just to see the insane spaceship design of the cathedral
