As a non-native English speaker, one of the requirements to get a job as an English teacher in Japan is to prove that you received at least 12 years of education in English. Does anyone have a sample of this document? I requested the schools I had studied to write up such a document, but they are weirded out by it. I’ve got a bachelor’s in English, 4 years of English teaching experience in home country and abroad and TEFL. Do I still need this ‘schooled in English medium certificate’?

Theoretically you shouldn’t need any schools to write up a document. You should be able to state (for example) “I went to schools that used English as the teaching language for all subjects from grade 1-12” or “…from grade 5-university,” and include the websites. Schools that use English as their language have that on the website. If the school doesn’t have a website in English or a specific program in which all learning content is done in English and thus has no url page indicating that, may not be acceptable. If the schools material doesnt clearly show that the school uses English as the operating language, it may not count.
As a fellow non-native English speaker who … did not receive 12 years of education in English (although I DID receive 12 years of English education), my wonderful first boss asked me to submit my TOEFL scores (117/120), but I have no idea what he did with them to get my COE. All’s I know is I got into the country without problems.
I am a non-native speaker but I do come from a country that uses English as its “main language” rather than its mother tongue. I am not sure how different your case is, OP, but I think bigger companies are aware which countries use English as their mode of education.
The only school documents I have provided are my HS diploma and transcript of records from uni—both of which are in English.
I did this. Basically just copy the one document (minus specific details) you already have and send it to your other schools. Have them copy it and send it back with their seals.
