I’m talking about series like “Kantaro” or “Samurai Gourmet.” I would like to look for more titles.
So far, I have seen the following series (from favorite to “not bad”):
1. Sunshine Sento-Sake / Hiru no Sento Zake
2. midnight diner: tokyo stories
3. Kantaro
4. samurai gourmet
Would also appreciate recommendations.

I personally like Solitary Gourmet (Kodoku no Gourmet). Don’t know about a genre name though sorry.
Did some Googling, I think the terms グルメドラマ and 料理ドラマ are the most common.
Eating out huh?
1: うわいで外食しましょう
2: カーペットがおやつ女性
3: 魚香りの箱
These things were they go to a place, eat a food, declare that it’s umai, then ask why it’s umai, we see the chef make a dish and it’s got an ingredient that we can all agree is pretty far out?
I call that Japanese food porn, but don’t Google it.
I recommend Wakako Zake.
All the places she goes are real restaurants.
The closest name to a genre I can think of is “Iyashi” (癒し), but that isn’t just for these food shows but all mellow, low-stakes/no-stakes TV.
Yes, they’re called boring Japanese TV series.
I like those shows too; another slightly different version of this genre is “What did you eat yesterday?” which features lots of home cooking in a drama(comedy drama?) about 2 gay men living together.
I think they’re called 衆民のオピオイド or 脳みそのチューイングガム
Midnight Diner had two separate series on Netflix!
