Cape Soya to Cape Sata 🏍️+⛺

Hi everyone, I am trying to plan a motorbike trip from [Cape Soya to Cape Sata](https://goo.gl/maps/zf6y5dURhEigbaNh7), following the coast of the Sea of Japan.

I’m considering either buying a motorbike locally (and then reselling it), or renting a [Honda](https://hondago-bikerental.jp/) or similar (I mention Honda because in its contract it allows you to leave the vehicle at a different location from the start by paying [50,000 yen](https://hondago-bikerental.jp/rule)).

I was planning to go camping (where it is allowed) and occasionally stay in a hotel or B&B.

I’m a bit worried about the language difficulties, but I’m sure it’s worth the trip.

If any of you have already had a similar experience or have any advice for me, I would be very grateful.

Thank you in advance

  1. Unless you are a resident of Japan – buying and registering motorbike in Japan will be almost impossible.

The route is OK for the most part:

    * Northern Hokkaido: the strong suggestion would be to use a route through Shibetsu and Asahikawa rather than coastal one on your first leg; this would allow you to also visit Biei/Furano area on the way to Sapporo.
    * Southern Hokkaido: I would probably visit Shakotan before heading for Hakodate or at least deviate to Lake Toya area.
    * Northern Tohoku: I would hit both Hirosaki and Goshogawara areas. Also make allowance for Dewa Sanzan.
    * Joetsu: Visiting Echigo area would be a very good idea. Probably skipping coastal route somewhere before Izumozaki and rejoining it around Joetsu,
    * Hokuriku: Probably it would be a good idea to visit Noto Peninsula. I would switch inland only after visiting Tojinbo.
    * Kyotango: I would head through Amanohashidate and Ine, then through Kinosaki Onsen rather than heading through Fukuchiyama and Asago.
    * San’in Coast: Deviation inland from Hagi will make you miss eg. Motosumi Inari shrine
    * Kyushu: If you want to stay with hugging the western coast theme: Fukuoka → Karatsu → Hirado → Nagasaki → Shimabara Peninsula → Kumamoto &arrr; Ibusuki → Minamiosumi → Cape Sata would make sense.

  2. I am planning a similar 2 month trip May/June 23. Thanks for the link to this rental website. Being able to return the motorcycle to a different location is awesome. Would love any links for finding camping in Japan.
