**ふしぎ駄菓子屋 銭天堂** (AKA Mystical Candyshop Zenitendo)

This is about a magical candyshop that people sometimes find. The candy often is life-changing. Each chapter is almost like a stand-alone story so you can have some small accomplishment by finishing each section, before you finish the entire book.

The book is a bit funny and sort of sadistic at times in the way that old fairy tales were. This book has furigana on many of the words (not all) and has a vastly reduced amount of kanji compared to adult books. Good book to get started with.

**星のカービィ あぶないグルメ屋敷! ?の巻** (AKA Kirby in the Dangerous Gourmet’s House)

Ok it’s kirby from Nintendo fame. It’s silly and has all the characters like Dedede and Metaknight. Good book to get exposed to different ways people talk. Metaknight talks very eloquently and Dedede will teach you how to swear. Kirby talks in a more simple way like yotsuba etc.

Full furigana everywhere.

Also if you read this you will never think of Dedede in the same way again, I can guarantee it.

**モンハン日記 ぽかぽかアイルー村 手紙の謎をゆる〜り解明ニャ! !** (AKA monster hunter journal pokapoka island town: unraveling the mystery of the strange letter)

If you like monster hunter, you can read this and get a laugh out of what the cats are up to. The cats talk in a somewhat casual style which is sometimes a bit hard, but the narrator speaks more plainly. This is a “cozy” type book. Full furigana everywhere.

First book I read, but not that easy compared to the others I linked. This is about a girl who is a witch and she has to live on her own for one year. This doesn’t have furigana but instead doesn’t have much kanji either. So good book if you are learning.

Buy some metal book clips. You will be doing hundreds of dictionary look-ups and you don’t want the book to keep closing. You don’t wanna fool around with paperweights, just buy these things they’re cheap and last forever, plus you get 3 and only need one.
