Silent vocab review instead of reading aloud

I do vocab reviews in both Anki and Satori Reader. Normally when I review vocab flashcards I try to read the word and/or sentence on the card out loud. However, during the trip I will finally be able to take to visit Japan, I expect that the time available to me to do vocab review will mainly be while I’m riding the train, where the custom is to remain silent.
Any particular tips on trying to keep my vocab review effective, without actually speaking aloud?

  1. I read out loud at home but if reviewing at my lunchbreak at work I don’t want to read out loud and disturb people.

My tip is to use hover-over furigana.

    1. think what the word should sound like

    2. touch the word (if on a phone) or hover over (desktop) and that will show you the furigana and you can see if you got it right without using the voiceover.

    Hope this is useful.

  2. You can still mouth them, without actually saying them. Particularly effective if wearing a mask since no one can see you doing it.
