Any thoughts on Yaruki Switch Group?

So right now I’m currently an ALT for a dispatch company. I’ve only been with the company for 1 year. I was looking for a part time job in Gaijin Pot and I saw YSG was hiring and I was thinking their salary per month was higher than the company that I’m currently working for. They sent me an invitation and that they are interested in hiring me. I would love to hear your opinion if I should take this opportunity. But this would result to burning bridges with my current company.

  1. I work for YSG. I like my workplace a lot and I get a lot of freedom. But it really depends on the school and management. I know other teachers who have troubles with their management and team.

  2. Absolutely depends on brand (type of school), owners (if it’s a franchised school) and staff members. Just gotta hope you get lucky.

  3. Have worked for 2 years can’t complain. Don’t consider it a teaching job and your sanity will be kept

  4. Any company named after a corporate slogan meant to push workers to give their best is something to be avoided.

  5. I knew of a few friends and acquaintances who worked for Winbe, part of yakuri switch, and moved on in less than a year. The main issues they had: overworkded (although true for so many eikaiwa)…back-to-back lessons (8-10 per day), sent off to distant locations (met a guy in Tokyo living in a hostel–he was shipped off to some tiny town outside of Morioka), and work visa issues. Although if you already have the correct visa, that’s less of an issue.

  6. Everyone I know who worked or is working for that company hates their job with a passion. One of my friends called it his “year of hell”.

You’ll be a glorified babysitter, expected to do childcare while singing songs to toddlers. If that’s not your thing, don’t apply.

It’s not a real teaching job by any means. IMO, if you want to get into teaching, even Nova would be a better choice.

Well, the best choice would be to get a CELTA or TESOL degree, but most of you people seem to have an allergy to education….

  7. It absolutely depends on where you are placed as a lot of their Kids Duo schools are franchise schools, have a friend that quit from one of the schools in Tokyo because the management was garbage and had shitty coworkers whereas another one of my friends worked for the one in Nagoya and loved it, so who knows?, but it definitely is a flip off. On the flip side if you find running around different schools a royal pain, at least Kids Duo offers a stable location but you would also have a shittier working schedule and be expected to work on weekends sometimes for random events they hold to attract students.

  8. I’ve been at a Kids Duo for 2 1/2 years and I love it. It really depends on the school though, I know people who hated it, and people who loved it. I personally think direct schools are better to work at than franchise schools 🙂
