Who buys the big stuff at Costco?

I’m talking about the big items like outdoor park setups, giant inflatable Santa, American size BBQ grill and lawn chair set up. Most Japanese don’t have big yards to fit all these things so I really wonder everytime I go if they’re really selling these items or what the deal is. I’d love to buy some of it myself, but again..no space.

  1. So true. I was just having a conversation with my wife about that after seeing all the Halloween stuff. What Japanese yard has space for the 20 foot skeleton 😂

  2. Businesses buy them. I live in a tourist town and lots of the glamping, vacation homes, and outdoor cafes have Costco stuff. And of course people out in the countryside have space so they buy them sometimes, I’ve seen a few houses using the Costco sheds.

  3. If you travel far enough from the densely populated area you’ll find houses get bigger, they stand on bigger properties. So that’s the somewhat limited market for US standard garden furniture and accessories.

  4. Kindergartens, business and people with houses. I’ve seen a few businesses around with big Costco Christmas tree. It’s probably quite cost effective because I’m sure a Japanese deco company would charge a shit load more.

A friend of mine with a house bought the garden shed, and another friend who lives near the sea bought the kayak.

They probably don’t sell a ton, but it doesn’t cost them much to throw up the demo model and keep a few around. As you said yourself….”most people”…..well that still leaves a hell of a lot of *the other people*.

  5. We buy larger stuff from time to time. Thinking about one of the larger Christmas outdoor displays this year.

  6. Plenty of people in Nagano have space for all the stuff at Costco. Not having the space is the exception round where I live.
