Moving to Japan during a gap year

I wanna take a gap year after finish high school to save some money for uni and get experience as an adult outside of high school and was considering moving to Japan, I was curious whether this would be a good idea or not.

  1. To work in Japan you pretty much need a college degree otherwise it’s almost impossible to get a visa. Unless you have family in Japan or you yourself have Japanese citizenship.

    You could maybe apply to a language school in Japan to come but that wouldn’t really allow you to save money.

  2. I don’t think you would save any money for school. No degree means your employment options are limited. Your Japanese ability would also affect employment opportunities. Additionally, it costs money to move abroad and even if you found a good job I’m not sure you would recoup your losses from the move. Japan is a cool place to live but it doesn’t seem like a realistic move for your situation.

  3. Judging by your post history, you’re Australian, which means you can qualify for a working holiday visa. What kind of work you can get is a different question, not lots of places looking to hire someone right out of high school that doesn’t speak Japanese. If you don’t mind factory work, you can make onigiri for 7/11 or something. Don’t count on saving money though, it’s barely above minimum wage and the yen is weaker than the hubs mixed drinks
