Question about Jlpt practice test

I was doing practice test and there was Sentence.

きょう、がっこうは 休み です. School is closed today.
But why did it use 休み Instead of 閉まっている
If 休み Means rest and 閉まっている Closed

  1. More literally, it means something along the lines of As for school, it’s a day off/break.

  2. the first means the its the rest day of the school and the second will mean the school is literally closed so just take it as it is and also its not a very good habit to translate word for word anyways
