It’s Monday! Did you do anything over the weekend? Go somewhere? Meet someone? Try something new?

Post about your activities from the weekend here! Pictures are also welcome.

  1. Bereavement leave in Japan how long usually you could take time off? Does the leave count today or starts at the funeral where people can visit for a day? I hope you get my question my I’m a little off right now

  2. Had a headache for most of the weekend so I didn’t do much.
    – played Kirby Discovery mostly
    – Skyped with my parents a bit
    – went out for curry with my husband yesterday for lunch at a local Indian restaurant. I had spinach curry, it was really good!
    – Took a nice bath last night. It’s been a whole year since I’ve used my bathtub last so it was really refreshing.

  3. We went out to a day camp area near our place just to spend some time in the woods. Didn’t actually use the day camp facilities but damn is it giving me an itch to get into that hobby.

It’s only like 15-20 min drive from home and has a setup that really reminds me of camping in the Canadian Rockies.

On a semi related note I went to use the toilet on site and some 7 year old followed me in, stood right along side me and attempted to get a good look at my junk. Tried to shoo him away and instead he ran out of the place to yell out loud to his mother in the distance about what he saw.

Like how do you even respond in those situations.

  4. Went to [Kita’s Fireworks Festival](http://www.hanabi-kita.com/) on Saturday. Beautiful fireworks but the music was blaring way too loud.

Took a practice JLPT on Sunday after church and felt encouraged by the result. Good to get feedback on where to focus studies before December.

  5. Went to Tobu world square and Ashikaga flower park. Also walked around Utsunomiya city. If interested, pictures are available for viewing in recent posts on Reddit(my profile).

  6. Went to the Red Bull box cart race in Osaka on Saturday. It wasn’t as adventurous compared to races outside japan. IG culture doesn’t allow people to take risks even in sports.

    Maggy looks hot irl.

USJ is doing Halloween. What do USJ employees consume that makes them cheer everyone they interact with? I want what they’re having.

  7. Had a health check and stupid, required company event (at the threat of revoking my WFH). Social anxiety going absolutely crazy as HR lady tried to force me into conversations with people whom I didn’t know with no prompt other than telling us both to “talk to each other” and sitting there waiting. Nightmare. It doesn’t help that because of interactions with my boss, I’ve lost a lot of faith in my ability to communicate in Japanese (despite the fact that my wife and I only speak Japanese and I do everything else in Japanese). Because of the health check and flu shot a few hours before, I also wasn’t feeling fantastic (yay, laxitives). Several other people at the company were also drunk and making me uncomfortable.

Was supposed leave Friday at 5pm to go hiking and camping before all that and it was the first weekend it hasn’t rained in ages. Fuck my company. I got up early Saturday (already having lost over half a day), but felt unwell and just gave up. Just did some shopping and such. Took a programming test for a new job. Probably the most difficult one I’ve ever taken, partially because it’s in a language I only started using a little bit ago and partially because it was using concurrency and I haven’t messed with it in this language yet. Felt completely defeated afterwrod.

Sunday, cleaned my home office and grilled hotate, steak, eringi, negi, and burgers (most of which are for the rest of this week’s lunches).

  8. After hitting the food stall festival in Oimachi, I walked to my favorite butcher to pick up some of their karaage and frozen hamburg patties and discovered they have actual, cured, not par-boiled, genuine bacon. Well, I didn’t find out until I cooked it the next morning suspecting it was just pork belly (豚バラ) labeled as bacon. It crisped up perfectly with tonnes of delicious bacon fat I saved for roasting.

Also bought a nice carving pumpkin. A tad expensive but I didn’t want to miss out on a nice one while waiting for the local florists to go full discount.

  9. Went to Omotesando yesterday to check out a local designer’s store and unintentionally did some celeb spotting and saw Aimyon in the same shop lol. Then walked to Kitaya park in Shibuya to check out the markets there. Also while in Shibuya we grabbed some tickets for the new Slam Dunk movie at Toho. I was expecting to see a lot of tourists around Omotesando and Shibuya areas according to this sub but no. Maybe only a few people who could pass off as tourists.

Really enjoyed yesterday’s Sazae-san episode about rush hour commutes. It was like watching the complaint thread in a cartoon. A few good laugh out loud moments compared to usual.
