Clarity regarding Genki books

Kind of confused as to what to buy. I see that there is different volumes but also up to three editions of the genki books?

Does anyone know which one to buy? From what I read an answer book plus one of the genki ones should be fine?

I have the hiragana and katakana down so far that I recognize the symbols if that helps

  1. Books have different editions – think of them like new versions for software.
Certain parts may be corrected or changed so I usually buy the latest edition.

  2. The major changes are vocabulary and layout, particularly the workbooks.

If you go for the 2nd edition, I’d buy both textbooks and workbooks with the answer key for 2nd edition.

    Same for 3rd edition.

  3. 3rd edition > 2nd edition >>> 1st edition.

    Volume 1 precedes volume 2.

So an ideal purchase, not considering cost, would be the 3rd edition textbooks and workbooks for volume 1 and 2.
