Head’s Up: G7 in Hiroshima in May ‘23

(Reposting as I apparently don’t know what year it is…)

Hey folks. We are currently booking our accommodations for a 3 week trip in May. We were planning on spending a few days in Hiroshima, Naoshima (art island) and Miyajima (shrine island).

Turns out that the G7 is meeting there in May and the Japanese government has blocked most area hotels for the better part of the month. Plus the harder to get Ryokans are already booking up before and after.

We actually change our trip dates to avoid this…

  1. The biggest nuisance for visiting Hiroshima (aside Peace Park Area being blocked off for a day or two) in that time period is that coin lockers in wider area will be switched off, which can be a bit of a big deal with Hiroshima.

To offset this: you may choose to stay a couple (or more) of days in Okayama (which would work fine for day trips to Naoshima, Hiroshima, Kurashiki, Takamatsu and Bitchu-Takahashi) and has one of the most famous Japanese gardens (Korakuen).
