Monthly rent for parking space in Tokyo

Just wondering for those who are paying for their parking space on monthly basis whether at your apartment complex or a third-party lot for how much and whereabouts in Tokyo.

I’m looking at a space about 15-20 min walk from Meguro Station but part of Shinagawa-ku for about 35,000 a month. I don’t think it’s that unreasonable, but I have heard some spaces in Tokyo for 20,000-25,000 yen. Do they really exist?

  1. Ive looked around in the past when I lived in shibuya-ku near nishishinjuku gochome station, but around there it was 30,000 jpy per month minimum.

I suspect 20,000 jpy will be much further out from the city.

I live in nishtokyo-shi now, which is still technically Tokyo but very close to Saitama, and after a quick search just now I can find spots anywhere from 10,000 to 20,000 per month.

I think for where you’re at, you won’t find anything near 20,000.

  2. Around Musashino city (west Tokyo, Kichijoji station) I’ve seen spaces for 25000 to 20000 but that isn’t in the 23 wards.

  3. Prices vary wildly by location. 35,000 a month is on the cheap end. 20,000 a month is very cheap, you’re not usually going to find that unless you go out into the suburbs.

50,000 a month is common. I know someone who pays 80,000. Parking ain’t cheap. Probably cheaper to rent a car as needed than to pay parking unless you are using it every day.

  4. When I lived near Otsuka I was paying 33,000 yen (this was a machine stack near the station). I can imagine it being more expensive around Shinagawa/Meguro.

I did get a few advertisements for cheaper but I think they get snapped up quickly.

  5. Went from 33,000 JPY tower parking to 25,000 JPY in Shinagawa seaside area. All about location…

  6. Mine is 25000 for a space in someone’s front yard (sendagi area). I suggest go to a old school real estate agent who knows neighbors personally. Being gaijin may make things harder but worth a try!

  7. Just gone through this. That sounds about right for the area you describe. I pay 25,000 and it seems all the accommodations and private parking lots charge in the immediate area charge about the same.

Beware whoever you go with might charge you a month’s fee for processing, plus a processing fee for the processing fee, plus a deposit, key money, and of course after two years a renewal fee (not kidding). It’s extortion, but I’ll save that for rant day…
