Temporary Childcare

We are going to be in Japan for a month in the spring of 2023 in preparation for moving there on a work visa (with Apple) and would love to put our 3 kids (5,3 and 1) into an international daycare for 2 weeks of that time for exposure. Is this possible? Is it a school by school basis, or does a program for this exist? Any help is appreciated.

  1. Only two weeks? That might be tough. Our kid went to an international daycare and they occasionally had events for a week or so that “guests” could attend— normally during vacation times (winter, summer, etc). Otherwise you had to pay all the entrance fees and the full monthly fee. Which was not cheap.

Note that an international daycare is often taught in the foreign Target language (such as English), so your kid would not really get exposure to Japanese, if that’s what you’re seeking. But if you’re basically scouting out places for where you want to send them when you move permanently, then reach out and see if the schools can accommodate this.

If you want language exposure your best bet may be hiring a bilingual babysitter. We’ve used [Carefinder](https://www.carefinder.jp/en) in the Tokyo area with great success. They can give your kids some exposure to the language and give you the flexibility you need.
