A new gym opened in my city – the name is chocozap. I looked them up and it seems to be a new cheap chain by RIZAP (which I only know as ridiculously expensive). The concept is that there’s no staff at the gym and no showers it seems. Since the gym is 5 minutes from my home I don’t care if I need to shower at home… and it’s only ~3,000 yen per month. They seem to open a bunch of locations nationwide now which can be used with that membership and it’s open around the clock. It seems like a good deal to me, but would like to hear some opinions. They seem pretty new with only locations around Tokyo and Kansai so far, but they open like 4 shops in my city this month. Anyone been there? Pros/Cons?

Sounds like a reasonable option. The only thing I would say is, make sure you know yourself really well. Will you go to the gym? ‘Only 15 minutes away’ sounds close. For me, I know I would end up not going if I was tired. Or cold. Or too hot. Or lazy. Or for any other of a million reasons; having to leave the house was a major barrier.
Then I got an indoor trainer for Zwift / SufferFest/Trainerroad.
I’ve put *thousands* of hours on the trainer over the last 5 years. I lost around 25kg. A 60 minute workout takes me 63 minutes, since I simply need to change and hop on the bike. For me, it’s been the best possible option, since it removes any and all barriers to getting a workout in (and Zwift racing is effin’ awesome).
Anyway, just a thought.
One just opened near my house too! Looks good! Basic setup but all you need.
I haven’t joined yet because I don’t think I want to exercise with a mask on.
I use them. It’s good for beginners but know it’s only machines
and can get packed depending on the time (like after work)
The app shows you how full the gym is. Some cardio machines got 15min time limit when packed (idk many who follow this)
It’s app only so almost no elderly japanese. Would recommend if it’s closeby
