Hello. I am wondering how a Japanese speaker might distinguish between two phrases both pronounced “fudo”: 浮動 meaning floating and 不動 meaning immovable when they are spoken out loud. Thanks!
Same way we distinguish the words weather and whether. Context.
Context, of course. If you can’t tell from context, you ask them what they mean, and they will either use a synonym, rephrase the sentence or say which kanji they mean. That’s actually very common in Japanese, it happens all the time.
It wouldn’t be *fair* if you didn’t have to pay the *fare* for the *ferr*y to go to the *fair* like everyone else.
