Hey everyone! Like many of you, I’m thrilled to be visiting Japan in December and am planning on going to Tokyo DisneyLand. The problem was, when I tried to buy tickets online, I was given the error message: “We’re sorry… we were unable to complete the transaction. (2885)”. I tried multiple VISA cards, but got the same error message, and it looks like I’m not the only foreign visitor having problems with this. Thankfully, I have a solution!
I started by calling a few American Disney customer support numbers (I live in Los Angeles) but all of them directed me to the international numbers to solve the problem. I didn’t want to pay for international calling rates on my phone, so I downloaded Skype and loaded $5 into my account for international calling. There are lots of apps that can call internationally, but I found that Skype had the cheapest rates. I waited until after 10AM Tokyo time and called Tokyo Disney’s customer support line (+81-45-330-9697). I was told that the lines were busy and to call back later, so I waited a couple of hours and called again (11pm my time…) and was given an option for English speakers.
After waiting about 5 minutes, I was put on the phone with a Tokyo Disney customer service rep, and a third party translator. It may sound a little overwhelming, but both the rep and the translator were very polite. The Disney rep ended up asking me for my account information and “unlocking the account for foreign transactions”. I hung up and tried the purchase again with the same card and it worked! Ended up costing me $0.72 in international calling fees.
It was a pretty frustrating experience and I hope that by sharing this, I’ll save you all some of the headache. Happy travels!

I ended up using a friend’s MasterCard to make the transaction go through since all of my Visas failed to work. That’s interesting to know that they have a flag for accounts that will just let the transaction through.
