Shin Kanzen Master N3 instead of Tobira?

Hey, everyone! I’ve been studying Japanese since 2018 (took a couple of breaks, but started seriously back up again in March of 2020 and haven’t stopped since). Already covered and sentenced mined from Genki I and II. Worked my way through Tango N5 and N4 (reviewing daily but no new cards), and I am almost done with the N3 deck (only a month left before there are no new cards to be added). After finishing with Genki I and II, I gave Tobira a fair shot, but it just was not for me. The super tiny font and the massive blocks of text truly discouraged me. I am currently working through “An Integrated Approach To Intermediate Japanese” and I am finding it far easier to digest at my level. Would Shin Kanzen Master N3 Grammar serve as a suitable replacement for the remaning parts of the grammar that are in Tobira that AIATIJ does not cover?

  1. Shinkansen and JLPT practice books are more for getting you used to the test than as actual study materials

  2. If you did not enjoy Tobira, perhaps give Quartet a try! I have been told that they are made by the same people who made Genki, and are a very smooth transition!

    edit: fixed typo
