Tips for getting back into Japanese?

I’m one of those gifted burnout kids, so I have a hard time studying, but I’m moving in 2 weeks and want to try forcing myself to get back into learning and keep with it this time (or so I say). I wasn’t quite JLPT-5 level before, but I was getting close to it by the time I stopped last time (had been studying on and off since late 2019). I plan to start wanikani from scratch, but I’ve tried again and again and can’t keep up with the basic flashcard sets people recommend. I plan to start working from a jlpt-5 grammar study list, and also have genki 1 and 2, so will use those as extra study material. Learning with TV doesn’t really work well for me, as I have a hard time focusing on shows that aren’t targeted at kids to begin with, but I do play VRChat so I was thinking of looking for some language learning worlds, and when I’m comfortable enough talking to other people who are learning I’ll try talking to native speakers.

Anything else you’d recommend adding to my study material? Also any idea what website would be best for finding fanfiction written by japanese speakers? I can’t find much (and nothing for my fandom which is BNHA) on ao3, and fanfiction is one of the things I know I can make myself read so I thought it’d be a good place to look for reading material (even if it’s poorly written it’ll get me comfortable with vocab and common grammar again).

  1. Just pick it up from scratch but go as fast as you like until you hit new material. Even if you cover stuff you remember it’s still good practise.
