Anyone working fully remote? (Kanto Area)

I’ve been working fully remote -not by choice, but because my team is not in JP- and it has been getting very lonely. I was wondering if there are other people in the Kanto region in the same situation as me. Would love to connect to build connections – maybe even meet up at a coworking space, cafe to work from the day.

I don’t meet anyone from work (because there is no way to meet them!) so if anyone wants to connect, that would be great.

I am in my late 20s, female and I work in Tech.

  1. Would your company (or you) be willing to cover the cost of a co-working membership? I know some remote workers who work in those places in order to feel more socially connected. I’ve heard it helps, even if you don’t really talk to people.

  2. Kanto region is big so I guess it depends on where you are located. I am also fully remote with only one co-worker in Japan but we rarely meet. I go to cafes or coffee places nearby sometimes

  3. Same here. I go to the office once in a blue moon, my team is dispersed thought the world anyway. I live in the suburbs, so sometimes I work in a Starbucks, just for a change of scenery.

  4. Full remote here and loving the freedom, but I’m also an introvert so the Japanese workplace way of socializing is especially draining to me.

  5. I’m in Kanto and always down to chat / meet new friends. Feel free to DM me if you want to chat!

Also – have you tried using Meetup, Facebook Groups, or Bumble BFF? Those can be pretty helpful for meeting people, especially if you live in or near a larger city.

  6. I work fully remote at a Japanese company.
A couple times a month I need to go into the office for a lunch gathering or nomi-kai

It’s pretty lonely, not gonna lie

  7. 関西、wfh from December 2019. They change everybody contract to home based.

Best thing ever. Watching Netflix now. Go back work later after video meeting 😂

  8. Just moved here with my wife and kid while trying to finish a PhD (in computer science) remotely. The isolation is destroying my soul, and the distractions of having family around at home are hard to block out. I seriously considered coworking spaces but I was pessimistic that I would just be alone around a bunch of strangers anyway. Would be awesome to have a dedicated coworking group to go out and meet up with as psuedo-coworkers.

edit: okay it’s hilarious how many people came here just to gloat about loving WFH and not wanting anything to do with the OP
