Intermediate Plateau

Hi everyone!

I’m a current university student and have taken three years of Japanese language courses, but my university doesn’t offer language courses for my fourth year, mainly just classes about Japanese culture. I don’t want to lose the Japanese that I already have, so I’m wondering what everyone suggests so that I’ll be able to keep my Japanese at least at the level I’m currently at, if not to learn more. I find it a little hard to motivate myself to keep learning kanji as well as compounds when I think I know around 400 ish right now. If anyone has tips on how to stay motivated I would love to hear!

For context, I’ve been through Nakama 1 and 2, as well as the Towards Better Japanese workbook, but am currently reviewing the second half of Towards Better Japanese. I would assume I’m around the N3 level currently. I’ve heard that Tobira and its work book are a really good resource. I’m also starting to read manga in Japanese in order to help my reading and comprehension.

I’m going to Japan in the spring of 2023 for a study abroad and really want to at least be at the level I’m currently at or better by the time I’m going there. Thanks for the help 🙂
