Expired Furikake?

I bought furikake from japanese amazon, it was fast shipped via DHL but some of those packs in a big bag arrived already expired [was expired even before ordering] or will expire in like a month (I can’t eat them in that time-frame). Does it really go bad or is it still useable? For instance this is the expired plum furikake: https://imgur.com/a/3JV5ENZ

  1. I think if everything looks dry and moves around independently you are fine. If it’s clumped together or looks moist, I wouldn’t eat it. There has been a lot of articles lately how expiration dates are mostly bullshit anyway.

  2. Japan uses “best before” dates on things other than ready to eat items.
You’ll be alright, just don’t eat it if it looks sus.

  3. I’ve got bags of furikake that expires 2020 that I’m still eating on. They were imported so I’ve slowly savoring the flavor. It’s all freeze dried ingredients so as long as moisture doesn’t come near it your good.

  4. If it writes 賞味期限 it means that past the dates the taste deteriorate or just not that delicious anymore but doesn’t mean you cant consume it, esp if it’s still sealed. I believe dry goods are still safe for consumption 1 to 3 months after 賞味期限 except if it stinks or drastically changed colors/shape.

OTOH if you find 消費期限, it means expired and cannot be consumed anymore, consuming it past the date might be dangerous etc.
