Can I sue?

An old employer lied to labor department to try and get me investigated and scare me. BUT I have solid 100% proof of their lies. I also have previous threats they sent me.
Can I sue? Slander? Harassment? I need to do something cause they won’t stop.

  1. You can always sue. Question is can you win? Only one can give you an answer is a lawyer.

  2. If you want to sue for money, you have to prove the exact monetary losses you incurred as a result of their actions.

If you want to sue for compensation for pain and sufferring / emotional distress, you have to prove willful malice on their end. Slander is willfully malicious and criminal but it requires them to spread false statements to the public about you, like online or to your future employer, etc. Labor board might be a bit of a grey area as to whether that counts as the public.

If they are nonstop contacting via email, phone or anything, you can get a restraining order. You should go to a police station (not koban) and make a report then you can consult a lawyer.

  3. Of course you can sue. But you can also expect to not get a significant amount if you win. But you can always sue. In fact if you could figure out who I am you could sue me.
