Remote work in Japan with relocation

Is it possible to find remote work within Japan that will also offer relocation to Japan?

I’m an engineer with a couple of years of experience. I speak intermediate Japanese and have started considering moving to Japan in order to work as a software engineer. I’ve looked into Tokyo Dev and Japan Dev and it sounds like due to covid a lot of software engineers are currently working remotely, and I’ve seen companies that don’t require Japanese knowledge and allow you to apply for positions from abroad.

But typically do those same companies offer to cover your relocation to Japan or sponsor a work visa? On the applications I’ve seen so far I couldn’t tell if you were expected to work remotely outside of Japan but within core Japan hours or if they are expecting you to move. Most of the posts I’ve seen regarding remote work have been about working remotely in Japan for a US company or starting a business so thought I would throw this one out here in case other people have had experience with this.

  1. The companies I’ve seen that do allow remote are usually remote-within-Japan-only and they do expect you to move now that the borders are open. They’ll usually get you started with a visa scrivener, some initial moving subsidies and short-term apartment
