What wuld be the equivalent product name in japan for Mineral Spirits? I see many paint thinners which are kinda the same product but with additives and horrible smell, but not like the more refined mineral spirits.
Application is that I need to clean large wood surfaces in preparation of coating and I worry standard paint thinner having extra oils or something in them. And I need at least a few liters, amazon has these import things with 100ml bottles that cost 1000jpy+… 😛

Do you mean turps? Or is that the funky smelling stuff you are referring to? Coz it smells pretty funky. In Japanese search for テレピン油. It’s quite inexpensive.
You could also use kerosene, available at every gas station.
