I’m changing jobs and am worried about the effect it may have on an application for permanent residence a few years down the line.
I’ve been living in Japan for a few years now. I’ve been working full-time for a salary well above 3,000,000 but this new job will require a few months at least where I’m working for 170k per month, though there’s a very generous housing allowance, as I build up the number of lessons. The hours are full-time (I have other duties) and the stipulated wages meet the threshold of 3,000,000 (there is a kind of weird disparity there, I know).
I worry earning so little will take me out of consideration for paying taxes or be immediately disqualifying for an application in its own right.
If this is going to preclude PR, I need to know so I can accept an offer from another school.
My deadline for making a decision is next week.

I think what ultimately matters is what shows up on your tax documents (住民税の課税証明書), so you should be fine as long as your income for this year so far at your current job + the income from your new job is over 3 million yen. Applying via the 10 year route on a non HSP visa would need 5 years worth of that document (as noted on [this page](https://www.moj.go.jp/isa/applications/procedures/zairyu_eijyu03.html)).
Next year even if you’re initially on the 170k/month you mentioned for a few months, as long as you hit over 3 million total for the year you will have continually met the requirement. From what I understand you don’t get disqualified the instant your monthly income drops below 1/12th of the income requirement for a given month. (That’s what I took away from [this](https://www.ss1-office.jp/15912471686188) at least).
If you plan on applying using the point system you’d have to be careful that your points don’t drop below the threshold due to income changes, even if you’re over 3 mil. It’s also worth noting that the income requirement is stricter if you have dependents apparently.
