Can someone help me with my question?

I am half-japanese and half-filipino. Last year my dad died and I am now planning to get Japanese Passport. My question is, will I be able to get it even if my dad is dead and I am not fluent in Japanese? In his toseki, I am registered as his child. Thank you for those who will answer.

  1. You’ll want to check with your nearest Japanese consulate, but your father having passed away (my condolences) should not invalidate your status as a Japanese citizen.

You will need to figure out how to get a recent copy of the family registry though. Some cities make it easy to get through the mail. Some require a human to come and pick it up. If you don’t know which city your family registry is in you may need to hire a private detective or legal firm to find out.
