Old buildings rentable for small “side project” shops/gallaries?

When I visited Ehime a couple years ago I found the Mitsuhamaru renovation project ([http://mitsuhamaru.com/](http://mitsuhamaru.com/)). This is a thing where a bunch of really old buildings are being piecemeal rented out and a lot of people are running little shops there, usually only Friday->Sunday. The nice thing being that the price is really in “hobby” territory, rather than “you really gotta make money off of this” territory.

Does anyone know of things like this in Kanto in general? I imagine within the 23 wards this isn’t really happening given the rents for storefronts and the like, but maybe there are things like this going on in cheaper areas? In … some form of urban area (I know there’s a lot of space available in the sticks)

The closest thing I’ve seen is this building near Kinugawa Onsen station renting out a huge space for \~5000 JPY/month

  1. There was an antique mall that was basically this – tons of little shops in an open format. But for little/no money? That’s what Mercari/Etsy are for not a storefront.
