Hi everyone – we’re in the process of planning our second trip to Japan next fall and are struggling to decide where to go.
We will spend the first four days in Tokyo, before making our way to Hokkaido for a full week. At that point, we will have 5 days left before having to return to Tokyo for our flight back home. On our first trip, we did the standard Tokyo – Kyoto – Osaka route, and also stopped over for a couple of days in Kawaguchiko near Mt Fuji. We’re keen to explore new parts of the country this time round.
Having done some research, some of the places that piqued our interest are (1) Kanazawa for the history and culture, (2) Niigata for nature, sake and food, (3) Takayama and its surroundings which seem pretty highly recommended, (4) Sendai or (5) Nagoya.
Any thoughts on how to spend those 5 days after Tokyo and Hokkaido would be much appreciated – we love staying busy walking around a lot and learning about the local culture/history of places, and are big foodies if that helps.
