Help on transportation

Hi, I will be visiting Tokyo in mid-November, and I have some queries regarding the transportation passes in Tokyo. Below is a brief itinerary of what my trip looks like

Day 1: Narita Airport to Tamako station (Lake Tama), will be moving around the area using buses from JR stations (boarding from Tachikawa & Akishima Stations)

Day 2: Tamako station (Lake Tama) to Shinjuku

In between: mostly moving around tokyo by metro, and possible a day trip to Yokohama

Last day: Shinjuku to Narita Airport

Looking at the itinerary, I am considering getting the one-day free pass for my travels around Tamako station, since I need to alight at JR stations + buses, followed by getting 2x 72h day passes for the remainder of my travels. Would really appreciate help regarding this if there are better ways to travel!

  1. The 72 hour metro pass can be a good value, it depend how much you will use the subway every day.

With rides starting at 170 yen, it can take up to 9 rides to make it worth the cost of the pass.

It also does not go everywhere, for example it does not reach Odaiba, Kichijoji/Mitaka, Yokohama (just naming area that are popular or that you mentioned), so you might have to combine the use of Subway and train.

It may also not be the most convenient route, for example it could be a direct ride using JR, but require a transfer on the subway.

If you want to make it as convenient as possible, get an IC card, I would recommend Pasmo if you think about the metro pass as you can load it on the Pasmo. Just use it to pay for about everything (unless you are getting a different pass for Tama area, but I do not know what specific day ticket you are looking for).

If you stay for less than 14 days in Japan, check to get the [Narita Express discount ticket](https://www.jreast.co.jp/multi/pass/nex.html),it will be the cheapest Limited express train, if you want to go for cheaper, then it’s the Keisei main line, but it’s a commuter train and you would not have a reserved seat and it takes longer.
