Type 1 diabetes

My family is looking to move to Japan in the next two years. I have a child with Type 1 diabetes. It is well controlled currently, I have heard that continuing pump therapy could be difficult in Japan, especially with a pediatric patient. Does anyone have any insight into this situation. He has been on a pump for 5 years since he was diagnosed.

If you go to ANY university hospital with a med school attached, pump therapy for diabetes is available. Here in Tokyo, getting pump therapy is a no-brainer.

The only time problems getting pump therapy is at rural locations. Basically, don’t move to rural location UNLESS you can first get confirmation of the availability of pump therapy for diabetes. Basically, make pump therapy availability a condition of your hiring. In general, don’t take remote/rural jobs and it will be ok.
