First time posting my sushi, any constructive criticisms?

  1. So I have made some spicy tuna rolls, spicy crab rolls, sake nigiri, maguro nigiri and then I tried my hand at tempura Philly roll. I know it might be hard to see but if anyone has some constructive criticism I would greatly appreciated!

  2. Your tempura batter looks a little thick which is pretty easily fixed by just adding more ice water or maybe cold seltzer, it should be a really light batter as otherwise it could trap more grease and become cloying/soggy. Also you could try preseasoning your nigiri by adding a tiny dab of wasabi between the fish and rice then brushing some soy over the top but thats really more personal pref. Also echoing other comments of where’s my share?

  3. I usually go to a local market, we have this place called H-mart which is an Asian market in our area they sell pre-filleted cuts of tuna and salmon in the sashimi block. So it makes it really convenientto make nigiri and sashimi. But I’ve found that if you can find a good fish monger you can get some good quality fish for a good price.

And to be fair it took me a few months and trips to find a good supplier.

  4. Looks delicious. Maybe arrange them a little geometric. One of my joys of making sushi is marking it look good/beautiful on the trade.

  5. I have worked at sushi restaurants on maui for 8+ years. I’d say your rolls look perfect as far as tightness of rice and nigiri looks pretty damn good as well!!! Keep it up in my book. Not an easy skill to learn for most

  6. I like to add a bit of sauce (teriyaki, kewpie, sriracha) and garnish (green onion, spicy pepper , avocado) to the top of my rolls

  7. The slightest drizzle of some kind of sauce might make it look more aesthetically pleasing.. but take that from someone who hates sauces. They usually put way too much. A little bit might be okay though! Awesome job

  8. The photo doesn’t capture much detail of the sushi, and so if you want to use constructive criticism regarding the sushi to improve your sushi, you’re not going to get the same level of criticism quality that you might get if you had better pictures.

Sushi looks fine from the eagle perspective.

  9. Sushi seem to be great but your plating is no appealling, like if you put them randomly.

    Suggestions:
Try to make a more graphic design, for ex alternate tuna and salmon
The rolls have nothing nice outside, so try to show what’s inside

And worst of all I predict a fight for the 5th salmon nigiri 😂
