Being declined everywhere for any type of credit

So I dont understand what’s going on. I’ve tried to get a fridge, phone, SIM card and even used Paidy. Paidy verified my account but basically took all functionality away, so I can’t actually use it for anything. Annual income is 4mil +. How does this work in Japan? My main concern right now is getting a phone since mine is on its last legs…

  1. I wasn’t able to get credit in Japan until I got PR. Before that my husband had to cosign on everything for me. I’ve heard more recently that the LINE and Rakuten credit cards are fairly easy for foreigners to get but I don’t have any first-hand knowledge on those myself.

  2. How long have you been here? Less than 6 months and you’re not going to get any cards. A year is better though. When you’re applying for cards are you putting anything other than ¥0 in the cashing option? That will also cause your application to fail as a foreigner. When you do get your first card be prepared for the credit limit to only be 10万 or so as well.

Edit: Forgot to include about company cards. This is how I got my first one. If your company offers support you can get one pretty easily, but this might be a rarer benefit outside of larger companies.

  3. You can get a sim free phone and pay with Line Pay Visa prepaid card.

Also Ymobile (or Softbank) allows you to get a phone with 48 installments even without a credit card (you only need a bank account)
