Best (cheapest) way to travel from Miyagi to Ehime?

Like the title says, really. I really haven’t traveled any except for a tiny bit before the pandemic hit, so I have no idea where to look/what’s reputable/etc. The only site I’ve ever used was Sakura Travel, but they don’t appear to have any flights between where I am and where I’m going (from Sendai to Matsuyama sometime around Christmas/New Years). Accommodations aren’t an issue, I just need to know the cheapest possible (otherwise I probably can’t afford it) way to get there and back again.

Many thanks to any who can help, used a throwaway so I don’t link my location to my main account.

  1. If it’s during the available period you have the 18kippu, not fast but very cheap.

Check peach and other flight sales, went from osaka to Sendai for about 3000 yen a few years ago.

Night and day bus usually cheap too, but during new year season it’s quite crowded so price may not be great.

  2. Around Christmas/New Year? The cheapest?

Buy a Seishun 18 Ticket and take a local train all the way from Sendai to Matsuyama. If you leave on the first train, 6:31am from Sendai station, you will arrive at Matsuyama around 12:16pm the next way with overnight in Himeji. The Seishun 18 2-day come to ~4,9000 yen, and 6-hour in internet cafe in front of Himeji station probably around 3,500 yen, making the total around 8,400 yen.

Alternative (1): a highway bus to Shinjuku connecting to a night bus. Probably around 13,000 to 15,000 yen during Christmas time

Alternative (2): I think there is currently no direct flight Sendai-Matsuyama, so you need to connect in Haneda. Probably around 20,000 per direction. Shinkansen would be 27,000 yen per direction.

  3. Never used it myself, but I’ve got friends who’ve used Seishun 18 to get around before. Could try a night bus as well? Back when I was a student I knew a few people who traveled around like that.

  4. Flight from Sendai to Osaka should be around 15,000 round trip if you choose the right date (look on Google flight or something). Then take a bus from Osaka.
