Does non-arrest civil disobedience show up on an FBI check?

Hi all,

In the past year, I have been involved in political activism that involved organizing civil disobedience.

I have twice been forcibly removed from my state’s Capitol building. I was never arrested or asked for my ID. However, I was a public enough figure that there could be documentation of my participation in civil disobedience.

Is this the type of thing that might show up on an FBI background check?

I participated in civil disobedience to influence my own circumstances and the circumstances of my neighbors. I am uninterested in getting involved in or influencing Japanese politics.

  1. If you’re American, and you were at the Capitol Insurrection, and the FBI has video of you, your background check could show it, however, TO BE SURE, just order two and have one both sent to you and open one to see whats on the paper.

  2. Current second time JET participating ALT here that had an arrest record before applying to JET for the first time.

After trail I was found innocent but afraid it would show up on my record.

first time applying I was able to get a watermarked slip from my town hall saying that I was fine (I was super paranoid )- second time I didn’t even mention it in my application.

Essentially what happened was my father owns a bar / restaurant and I was bartending and running the kitchen. Some friends who were down the road partying wanted food so they walked in and I served them food. Being a smaller town some other guests recognized my friends being underage ( I was also 19 at the time ) and reported underage drinking. They were not served alcohol by me – as shown by the cameras they were only served soda and food – but before that evidence was brought to court I was properly arrested in suspicions of serving multiple minors.

If you are super worried – see if your town hall has anything they can print for you – if they don’t I doubt it’s gonna show up anywhere else.

I know it’s easy to get paranoid over I hope this helps.

  3. If you want to be sure, you can order a FBI background check to be sent to you to see what will be on it.

CLAIR, your local Japanese Embassy, JET, etc. none of them have access to any US criminal records. It’s why they ask you to order a FBI background check to be sent to them. If it doesn’t show up on an FBI background check, JET will never know it happened. You don’t even need to tell them about it.

  4. Hi! You should be fine. The FBI check is mainly to review criminal history. You have not been arrested, so you do not have a record. If it were a security clearance for a U.S. federal government position your political involvement would likely come up in that, and in detail. For this FBI check, I highly doubt it.
Of course confirm with your consulate or the embassy.
