Returning a Switch game after opening?

I bought the new Persona 5 Royal Switch game from a BIC Camera outlet store today and used my points to get about 2000 yen off the price. Sadly, once I started playing, I realized there was no option for English subtitles. I tried to keep playing for a bit, but having to constantly stop to look up words got really annoying.

I suspect I’m shit out of luck, but has anyone ever been able to return a game at a BIC outlet after opening and playing?

  1. Generally when you break the seal off a video game it is no longer considered new and would be nonreturnable.

  2. Is your switch’s device language japanese by any chance? (Asking since I do that to play games with japanese text)
On the switch you can usually switch the device language and it should switch the in game language. Just in case that’s something you haven’t tried. I know the English versions have the Japanese audio as well that you can use the English subtitles on. Hopefully that’s an option.

  3. Just an advice. Before buying a game, check at Nintendo online store. It shows what language is available. According to the website, it’s only Japanese

  4. Just keep playing it.
    It’s good practice
It’s one of the reasons I’m so good at reading this language

  5. Since it’s relatively new and a popular series, Book Off , Surugaya (or Traderz if you’re near akihabara) etc should give you a relatively high price to buy back, and since you used 2,000 points you might even come out ahead.
