Visa extension are processed by company, and We don’t need go to immigration ?

I just processed my visa extension two weeks ago, and I went to immigration to do it. I just talked with my friend, he said that he just need to fill the document, and the company will process it, so he doesn’t need go to the immigration. He said that it mostly only needs one week to get his new visa because the company like ‘having close relationship’ with the immigration. Is this possible? I afraid that they lie to my friend.
Do you have same experience like my friend?

  1. Depends on the company.

Either they have an in-house judicial scrivener or they outsource that to firms that specifically offer this service.

Somebody correct me if that in-house statement is not true and that it always has to be a designated firm.

  2. Never had a company do my renewal for me. Been in typical Japanese companies and big firms.

    Local hire, not an expat.
Expats may have the luxury of company support
