Illegal parking notification

I left the car parked for 15-20 minutes with the hazard lights on a low transit street in Yokohama. When I came back, [this sticker](https://imgur.com/a/uY1P2YB) was on my windshield.

These are probably stupid questions, but I’ve never had an infraction in Japan. What happens now, am I supposed pay something? Should I contact the phone number? Is my car in some list now?

  1. Congrats. You are the first person to ever receive this ticket in the history of Japan.

I know this because everyday I see cars/trucks parked everywhere without an ounce of consideration of the traffic jams they cause.

  2. These parking infraction notices can be issued by approved officers (not the police) as well a the traffic police themselves. Unlike bicycle parking infractions where you are mostly fine if you keep on removing the notice, fines have already been incurred when this notice is issued (or at least when the officers registers the infraction to the police).

You can bring this to the police station to pay your fine, which is 15K yen or 18K yen depending on where you parked, or it’s also completely fine to wait until you get a notification in your mail after they match the vehicle with an address

  3. You need to pay this within a time limit or the fine increases (10 working days I think ).

All you need to do is go to the post office and pay it, if you have any issues then you will need to go to the issuing police office; where you got the ticket.

The second part isn’t really necessary, just get down to the post office and pay it.

  4. Ok I’ve had this too. The address on the car’s registration will receive a payment slip for 15K or 18K, which you will need to pay at the Konbini, or online via PayEasy.

Don’t go to the cops. Don’t go anywhere. Just wait for the bill (I hope your car registration’s address is up to date!)

If you go to the cops and admit you are the one who was driving, you’ll also temporarily lose points on your permit, and lose your gold license if you have one.

  5. I got one of these but I was driving a company car. I just tossed it in the bin and I never heard anything about it again. Maybe the company got fined but nobody ever said anything to me. heh

  6. Wait a minute. You got a ticket even though you had the hazards on?!? So much confuse.
Aren’t those the “do anything I want with no recourse” magic lights? Because that’s how they seem to be used here.
